2 INSIDER January/February 2018 Viewpoint New Year, New Approaches Many of us plan for the new year months before the clock strikes midnight on Dec. 31, but as we say goodbye to the holidays, it's time to solidify strategies, make game plans and execute. In the health and nutrition industry, a lot of those implementations happen, or are announced, at the Natural Products Expo West trade show (March 7 to 11, 2018, in Anaheim, California). New product launches, new initiative introductions, discussions with key partners, meetings with the press and business deal signatures all happen at the booths throughout the almost 500,000-square-foot expo hall. Of course, the planning for Expo West and every other trade show starts months (if not years) in advance. Brands need to ensure they follow show standards, prepare press releases, set up meetings with media and design an attractive booth. This Natural Product INSIDER issue is here to help you best prepare for Expo West and the other trade shows you'll be attending or exhibiting at this year (I suggest SupplySide East [April 10 to 11], Vitafoods Europe [May 15 to 17], SupplySide China [June 28 to 30], Vitafoods Asia [Sept. 11 and 12], Natural Products Expo East [Sept. 12 to 15] and SupplySide West [Nov. 6 to 10]). You'll fi nd direction on ensuring your booth and marketing materials are compliant to the show (and legal) standards on page 34. We also share tips for your marketing efforts on page 35 to ensure you make a big splash at every trade show. (Hint: It starts with connecting with trade editors like yours truly.) Beyond trade shows, if your supplement brand is looking to expand into the health practitioner channel, we have an overview on page 36 covering common pitfalls and overlooked opportunities to help get you started in this lucrative market. As always, our coverage of these topics and more affecting the health and nutrition industry expands on our website, We'll be launching a redesign in February, so let me know what you think and how we can help you expand your business in 2018.
