2 INSIDER July/August 2018 Viewpoint Hot Times in the Summer My grandmother used to tell me that as she got older, it seemed that she lost a week out of her year every year—a concept my youthful brain didn't grasp. Now, however, I fi nd myself trying to fi gure out how to fi t even more into my crowded calendar as I shake my head—how did we get halfway through the year so quickly? It's been in part because so much is happening across the natural products industry. On a daily basis, you'll see stories about new acquisitions, ingredient launches, partnerships and legal challenges. The calendar is also fi lled with events designed to foster connections across the industry and share insights across key topics. For example, our legal and regulatory editor, Josh Long, was on hand in May at the Dietary Supplements Regulatory Summit, co-hosted by the industry's trade associations, which explored key regulatory compliance issues. Josh's reporting on GMP (good manufacturing practices) inspections and compliance has been noteworthy for its consistency year-over-year. Similarly, Steve Myers, senior editor, traveled to the International Society of Sports Nutrition's (ISSN) annual conference in early June, looking at the science behind the ingredients as well as the go-to-market strategies in this key category. You'll fi nd even more around the sports nutrition category in this issue of INSIDER—with articles on scientifi cally studied ingredients for muscle building and concepts to maximize delivery, as well as the recent Digital Magazine, "Sports Nutrition: The Female Athlete." Naturally, we are also delivering more insights to drive your go-to-market strategies, from a review of the healthy aging market to considerations for AER (adverse event report) requirements, and exploration of ingredients including omega-3s, astaxanthin and plant- based protein. In addition, we dive into the functional bars market, which continues to offer great potential as a preferred delivery system for nutritional and functional ingredients; even more on this market can be found in another Digital Magazine, "On-the-Go Nutrition." Although we've made it to the halfway point of 2018, there are a lot of great opportunities ahead for making those personal connections. So if you'll be at IFT in Chicago or the NBJ Summit in California, hit us up ahead of time, as we'd love to hear more about how we can serve you better. Finally, don't forget to mark your calendar for SupplySide West, taking place Nov. 6 to 10 in Las Vegas.
